At the start of a new week and fresh out of the tomb comes the latest casting news regarding The Mummy. 33 year old Dutch actor Marwan Kenzari has joined the production of The Mummy, as reported initially by Variety. He’s the latest actor to join the Alex Kurtzman directed film, already set to star Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, and Sofia Boutella as the classic Universal Monsters creature.
While details regarding the plot of the Jon Spaihts scripted film are still vague, the latest casting seems to indicate that the original plot revolving around a military team unearthing The Mummy remains somewhat intact. Last week saw the announcement of Annabelle Wallis joining the cast as the female lead in the role of a scientist. We also learned of Jake Johnson being cast in a role specifically written for him – that of a member of the military. While there is no word on who Marwan Kenzari will play, we could either speculate that he’ll be on the side of Cruise’s team or aligned with Sofia Boutella’s mummy creature.
Kenzari also has key roles in Terry George’s The Promise starring alongside Christian Bale and Oscar Isaac; and MGM’s Ben-Hur retelling, which stars Jack Huston.
He is repped by ICM Partners and Janey van Ierland at Nummer19 in Holland.
Just this time last week Universal Monsters Universe learned of the casting of Annabelle Wallis. With Marwan Kenzari being cast for a role in The Mummy, could we expect another cast announcement later today or sometime this week? The Mummy has already begun scouting Malta as one of the production locations with filming set to start sometime this spring (April is the date mentioned). With it getting closer to release – June 9, 2017, and production set to begin soon, expect more announcements to happen within the next few weeks.
And, as always, stay tuned to Universal Monsters Universe for the latest on The Mummy.
