Universal Monsters Universe has just learned that The Mummy will no longer be shooting in Malta.
According to Times of Malta, “a source close to production” said that the Alex Kurtzman directed film will no longer shoot in Malta due to creative reasons due to changes in the script. As of right now, Malta has been shelved.
This is an interesting development in the production of The Mummy, especially with the film set to begin filming this spring/summer. While hair and makeup designer, Elizabeth Georgiou, has spoken in regards to how well the film is coming along, it looks as if changes are still being made to the film.
I wouldn’t take this as too much reason to be concerned as locations can change rather frequently and as we previously reported in our ‘Universal Monsters Universe & Everything We Know So Far’ there is a brain trust on board to ensure the highest quality for Universal’s reboot of their Universal monsters universe of films.
As we previously reported, Tom Cruise and the production scouted Malta some time ago; particularly Fort Ricasoli in Kalkara was looked at. According to various comments, it would seem that due to a political nature of shooting in Malta along with the delay in correspondence between the production department and Prime Minister’s office is what may have contributed to shooting elsewhere.*
*(PLEASE take note that this is all conjecture based on the comments regarding The Mummy no longer shooting in Malta.)
Regardless, Universal Monsters Universe cannot wait to see where the production decides to shoot The Mummy and as we trust hair & makeup designer Elizabeth Georgiou, we know it won’t disappoint!
