Thanks to Sofia Boutella, the star and title character (as if you didn’t know) of The Mummy posted a behind the scenes look at rehearsal and fight training for the upcoming 2017 film.
Train train train, sleep, repeat!
While the video is in fast motion, we do learn a few more aspects of the current production, along with seeing that Sofia Boutella will be bringing her trademark physicality to the role, just as she did as Gazelle in Kingsman and this summer’s Star Trek Beyond as Jaylah.
With filming of The Mummy taking place at Shepperton Studios as we previously reported, we get to see that longtime stunt coordinator and collaborator with Tom Cruise – Wade Eastwood is working on the Alex Kurtzman directed film. Eastwood (no relation to Clint) worked with Cruise on Edge of Tomorrow, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. He actually did stunts for 1999’s The Mummy, as well!
We also see Erol Nights, Michael Li, and Lucy Cork on set too! Lucy Cork also has a history with working on Tom Cruise productions as she was the stunt double for Rebecca Ferguson on Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and will be featured as Cobie Smulders stunt double in this year’s Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.
It’s great seeing a team that works so closely with Tom Cruise involved with Universal’s reboot of The Mummy and if it wasn’t already evident based on the casting of Cruise and Sofia Boutella, this movie will have action! Based on the rehearsal and fight training Boutella is involved in, it’s evident that we’ll be getting not only a Mummy most likely powerful in magic and abilities of that sort, but also one that proves to be a physical opponent as well; much more so than Karloff the Uncanny and Arnold Vosloo in ’99 and 01’s Returns.
