This past week we reported that English actor Dylan Smith may have joined the cast of The Mummy after his name appeared on IMDb‘s cast listing. Early this morning we saw reports that a popular Indian actress, Huma Qureshi, may have auditioned and/or been cast in the remake/reboot according to The Indian Express, PINKVILLA, and Bollywood Life. While this has yet to be reported and/or properly confirmed anywhere else, we would treat this as rumor.
However, according to the report:
“Huma has recently auditioned for the third part of the successful franchise starring Hollywood star Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella playing the lead antagonist,” Huma’s spokesperson said in a statement.
There’s a few telling signs about this. Namely, that The Mummy is referred to as “the third part”, unless it’s referring to the 1932 classic, the 1999 remake, and the 2017 version. Also some outlets have reported that Huma Qureshi has auditioned for the lead female in Alex Kurtzman’s film and we, as of now, hold this to be inaccurate as Annabelle Wallis and Sofia Boutella are the female leads, alongside Tom Cruise.
Yet, it is quite possible that Huma Qureshi has been added to the cast alongside Jake Johnson, Marwan Kenzari, and Courtney B. Vance. We think she’d be a fine addition to the impressive cast and it would be exciting to see Huma Qureshi make her Hollywood debut in The Mummy. We’re staying close to this report so as soon as we know more, this page will be updated.
The Mummy is directed by Alex Kurtzman, from a script by Jon Spaihts. The film stars Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Marwan Kenzari, Courtney B. Vance, and Sofia Boutella.
