Welcome to Dark Universe

An Invite To Meet The Universal Monsters!

Universal Monsters Universe invites you to Meet The Universal Monsters!

As we head into the new week, we’d like to first thank you for following us as we covered Tiger Raid at the Tribeca Film Festival.  It’s a film starring The Mummy‘s Sofia Boutella, and while there hasn’t been any word of whether it’s been picked up or not, we wouldn’t be surprised if it gets a release sometime after Star Trek Beyond and before/after The Mummy.  With Sofia Boutella‘s popularity and stardom on the rise, we could easily be looking at a Gal Gadot situation with her films Triple 9 and Criminal which released around her debut as Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman.  But back on to monsters!

Early on UMU’s Joe did a great profile series on the actors and actresses behind our favorite Universal Monsters.  He profiled everyone from the likes of Lon Chaney to Ricou Browning and Ben Chapman.  They’re really good if we do say so ourselves and if you love the classics, we’re sure you’ll really enjoy these.

Have a look below at the various people Joe profiled.  Click on the name for more and we hope you enjoy.

Bela Lugosi

Universal Monsters

Bela Lugosi starred in a Broadway rendition of Dracula and it was a success eventually becoming a touring production.

Elsa Lanchester

Universal Monsters

Elsa Lanchester – After her role as the Bride, she did not appear in another movie until 1941’s Ladies in Retirement which led to many more on-screen roles throughout the following decades including a run of Disney films such as Marry Poppins, That Darn Cat! and Blackbeard’s Ghost .

Lon Chaney, Jr.

Universal Monsters

Lon Chaney, Jr., the man behind the fur in The Wolfman and the only actor to portray all four monsters-the Wolfman, the Mummy, Frankenstein’s monster and Dracula.

Lon Chaney, Sr.

Universal Monsters

Lon Chaney Sr starred in hundreds of films and his make-up skills would earn him the nickname, “The man of a thousand faces.”

Ricou Browning

Universal Monsters

Ricou Browning performed in water shows before landing the underwater role of the Creature. He starred in two sequels, Revenge of the Creature and The Creature Walks Among Us.

Did you have a favorite Universal Monster?  My favorite was Boris Karloff, Karloff the Uncanny as The Mummy.  And I think everyone knows how much I can’t wait to see Sofia Boutella as The Mummy.    Make sure to let us know in the comments below because we’d love to hear from you!
