Season One Shoot of Syfy’s Van Helsing Officially Wraps

Back in February, it was announced that True Blood’s Kelly Overton would star in Syfy’s Van Helsing as Vanessa, a descendant of the great vampire hunter.  The show has been shooting in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada since March.  This weekend, the cast and crew, through social media, announced that first season shooting is officially a wrap.

Syfy’s Van Helsing is lead by Kelly Overton but also stars the likes of Jonathan Scarfe, Christopher Heyerdahl, David Cubitt, Paul Johansson and Tim Guinee.  It is written by Neil LaBute and is set to premiere its first 13 episodes this fall.  It may be called Van Helsing, but it is wildly different from Bram Stoker’s version seen in Dracula.  Syfy’s Van Helsing is set in a post-apocalyptic world run by vampires.  Vanessa must lead a group of human resistant fighters against the ruling creatures.  Overton is no stranger to taking on vampires as she played a werewolf on HBO’s True Blood.

Syfy's Van HelsingIf you’ve been visiting Universal Monsters Universe regularly, you are familiar with Zenescope Entertainment and their series Van Helsing Vs. Dracula featuring Liesel Van Helsing.  Back in April, we reported that Zenescope has been linked to the series.  The exact specifics are unknown as to what degree of involvement Zenescope will have but it is sure to be something very good.  The latest news on Syfy’s Van Helsing came last week when cast and crew announced they would be at San Diego Comic Con.  At the time the news broke, there were few details but we have learned through the Hollywood Reporter stars Kelly Overton, Jonathan Scarfe and Christopher Heyerdahl will join Neil LaBute in representing the show.

Van Helsing is shaping up to be quite a show and Syfy knows how to make a successful original series.  Stay with Universal Monsters Universe as we continue to follow Syfy’s Van Helsing throughout the summer as well as the series itself.
