Principal photography wraps week fourteen of filming on Alex Kurtzman’s “The Mummy”. Filming on the upcoming and first proper Monsters Universe movie looks to be winding down, but not without two important moments for its first film!
The Mummy has been filming for three solid months as of this week and with filming expected to conclude next month, we’re really nearing the end of principal photography on the much anticipated installment in Universal’s Monster Universe. The film is being headlined by Hollywood A-lister Tom Cruise and while Sofia Boutella is the rightful star, as she’s playing the role of the title monster, Cruise will be playing an important role within the film. It was actually his 54th birthday on Sunday, July 3rd and, not surprisingly, the cast and crew threw him a tea and cake “TC” party at Shepperton Studios.
Robyn Johnson, the assistant to director/producer Alex Kurtzman, posted the following on Instagram:
Tom Cruise’s birthday party, or the TC party, was assisted by Healthy Yummies, the catering service working with production. You may recall their “You Snooze, You Cruise” sign from some several weeks back in an earlier recap and, always clever, Healthy Yummies devised some pretty fun Tom Cruise inspired treats.

So here’s our idea, maybe this summer or next, you could host a Universal Monster or The Mummy party following the same menu that Healthy Yummies devised for Tom Cruise’s birthday! Maybe even incorporate those great Diamond Select Toys gelatin molds for dessert.
In other news, Elizabeth Georgiou, one of the hair and makeup artists on the film tweeted the following:
Tomorrow is a massive day in the world of Universal Monsters.. Good Luck team⚡️

What could she be referring too? Huh? Huh? Make sure to leave your thoughts in the comments below and, as always, stay tuned to Universal Monsters Universe for the latest on The Mummy.
“Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.
Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.
From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.”
The Mummy is directed by Alex Kurtzman, from a script by Jon Spaihts. The film stars Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Marwan Kenzari, Courtney B. Vance, Russell Crowe and Sofia Boutella as the iconic creature now revealed to be an ancient queen. The film opens June 9, 2017.
