The classic Universal Monsters have always been the epitome and definition of monsters such as vampires, zombies, and mummies.  It’s Tod Browning‘s Dracula that set the standard for vampires, along with James Whale’s Frankenstein that left an impression of what Mary Shelley’s creation should appear as to generations of audiences and fans.  In 2010, Mattel launched a popular line of fashion dolls that provided a fun and interesting alternative to many of the other toys found in stores.  Inspired by the likes of the classic monsters from Universal, the fashion dolls told the story of a group of teenagers that were the children of the classic monsters that we all love.  On Saturday, August 27th, Universal will be relaunching the franchise with a new origin story, and redesigned toys.  Welcome To Monster High.

Welcome To Monster High tells the story of Draculaura and her “ghoulfriends” as they navigate high school.  Even though they’re the children of the classic monsters doesn’t mean they’re exempt from what we’ve all experienced or are experiencing in life.  They brave the horrors of high school, facing the same trials and tribulations as everyone else – social aspects of fitting in, standing out, crushes, first dances, and overall survival.  What better way to present this than with literal teenage monsters?

The idea and concept behind Monster High is great and it especially works as an introduction to the Universal Monsters like Dracula, Frankenstein, and The Mummy.  Be sure to look out for Welcome To Monster High: The Origin Story if you enjoy these characters; if you happen to be a Lady Gaga fan, Monster High has also partnered with the Born This Way Foundation, which is “committed to supporting the wellness of young people, and empowering them to create a kinder and braver world.”  What better way to demonstrate this than with the teenagers of Monster High?

From Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, Welcome To Monster High: The Origin Story will be released under the Fathom Events banner in theaters for a special one-day event.  For tickets visit www.FathomEvents.com.    A month later, fans could bring the monsters home on Blu-ray and DVD.

Monsters once lived in hiding—even from each other—because they were afraid they would be in danger if humans knew they existed. But Draculaura, the daughter of Dracula, along with her best ghoulfriends, dreamt of a school where everyone was welcome and accepted for who they are. Determined to make their dream come true, the ghouls travel the world on an epic adventure to recruit new students. But even in this amazing place, there’s drama: a villainess zombie is spreading trouble rather than friendship, and every student must live with the fear that their secret will be revealed. Now the ghouls must save their school so that every monster has a place where they belong and their uniqueness is celebrated!
