Filming on Alex Kurtzman’s “The Mummy” continues in Africa as the cast and crew are currently on location in Namibia. As production has stayed on schedule, principal photography looks to wrap this month.
The Mummy is easily one of the most anticipated movies of 2017. As it’s set to be “an imaginative new take” on one of Universal’s most recognizable of the classic monsters, The Mummy looks to usher in “a new world of gods and monsters” set within a connected universe, not unlike the original classics and SHOWTIME’s Penny Dreadful. The film sports an impressive cast and the inspired choices of Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella are a guarantee that next June will be just a little spookier and all the more entertaining. So with principal photography looking to conclude on or around August 15th, according to our sources, here’s the latest regarding The Mummy!
This past week saw Sofia Boutella post a few behind the scenes shots from The Mummy as filming continues in Namibia. You could check those images out below.

All of us at Universal Monsters Universe would like to, yet again, extend our gratitude to our “Mother”, “MILF”, and Mummy – Sofia Boutella, for sharing with us these fantastic on location shots from Africa. And for those curious about why Ms. Boutella has been referred to as “mother” and “milf”, please check out the E! News video interview with her or even our ‘Sofia Boutella Talks The Mummy‘.
Ms. Boutella also went on to speak a little bit on her inspiration for her role as “an ancient queen” to WIRED. When asked “What is the last video you watched on YouTube?”, Boutella said “I was watching clips of Carrie. The original when she comes out of the prom. She’s pissed off. There she is [pointing to phone].” When asked if that was her inspiration for the role of Jaylah, she coyly said, “No, no, not Jaylah. For someone else though!” You could view that video below.

The cast and crew of The Mummy are having a great time in Namibia and production is going well. This week also saw a few words on production come out via The Mummy producer Sean Daniel.
“Namibia has welcomed us with open arms. Only because of all of the amazing hard working Namibian crew, and the warm hospitality we have received from them and the community, are we able to accomplish the work at hand. Thank you to everyone in Namibia involved in making our dream of shooting here a reality. We feel proud to showcase the breathtaking landscape of Namibia in our film.” – Sean Daniel.
As always, stay tuned for more news on The Mummy!
“Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.
Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.
From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.”
The Mummy is directed by Alex Kurtzman, from a script by Jon Spaihts. The film stars Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Marwan Kenzari, Courtney B. Vance, Russell Crowe and Sofia Boutella as the iconic creature now revealed to be an ancient queen. The film opens June 9, 2017.
