The Sarcophagus Closes! Sofia Boutella Wraps Filming on “The Mummy”!

Sofia Boutella

With filming on Alex Kurtzman’s The Mummy coming to an end, headlining star Sofia Boutella has wrapped filming on the upcoming Monsters Universe film.

Universal Monsters Universe would like to extend our well wishes and many blessings to Sofia Boutella.  Congratulations on your role and “wrapping” your time on The Mummy.  Here’s to the next 10 months and Summer 2017!

It began with the casting of Kingsman and Star Trek: Beyond star Sofia Boutella in December 2015.  On April 4th of this year, in South East, England, Ms. Boutella began her first day of filming on The Mummy.  Starring as “an ancient queen whose destiny was unjustly taken from her,” Ms. Boutella would film in England at Shepperton Studios and travel all the way to Namibia to conclude her time as… The Mummy.  Today, on August 9 of 2016, Sofia Boutella has officially wrapped filming on Alex Kurtzman’s upcoming Universal Monsters film that is set to launch the Monsters Universe.

With a simple, yet elegant post, here’s what Sofia Boutella had to say on her time working on The Mummy:

“What a glorious way to wrap this picture! Here in Namibia in the middle of the oldest desert in the world – After 6 long months of hard intense work – I can barely believe it – I feel very blessed and humbled – everyone worked so hard and I am so thankful for having been looked after so well for the incredible journey!” – Sofia Boutella

It really has been an an amazing couple of months of pre-production and principal photography as filming began in April and is now concluding this month.  The Mummy features an amazingly talented and inspired cast, with the Algerian dancer/actress and overall artist, Sofia Boutella, as the title character.  As we once said, she’s “a new kind of actress and mummy,” and we can’t wait for this “mother” to be awakened on June 9, 2017!

“Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.

Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.”

The Mummy is directed by Alex Kurtzman, from a script by Jon Spaihts and Dylan Kussman.  The film stars Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Marwan Kenzari, Courtney B. Vance, Russell Crowe and Sofia Boutella as the iconic creature now revealed to be an ancient queen.  The film opens June 9, 2017.
