As the popular FX series “American Horror Story” heads into its sixth season, not much is known about the current theme and plot. But with teases serving as homages to a certain period of films, could season six revolve around the concept of classic monsters?
American Horror Story is known to have a different concept and theme for each season. The popular anthology series has featured a murder house, an asylum, a coven, a freak show, and most recently, a hotel. While later seasons may not have been as warmly received as the earlier installments have, there’s no denying that the FX series created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk has quite the fan base.
“All I can say is there is a theme, but we’re not going to reveal it because we think it would be fun for the audience.” – FX CEO John Landgraf
Unlike past seasons, the team at FX and American Horror Story have kept season six’s theme a mystery. It’s a major point that has many fans buzzing, especially since there have been so many varying promos for this current season. However, one of the recurring themes that we’ve been seeing a lot of classic monsters. With ads that pay homage to Universal’s Dracula, The Mummy, and Creature from the Black Lagoon, is it possible that classic monsters will play into season six? Or possibly classic Hollywood will be the theme and characters like the classic monsters will appear.
With 2017 featuring the return of King Kong in March’s Kong: Skull Island and June’s first “Monsters Universe” film, The Mummy, it’s definitely looking like monsters will be a trend for the upcoming year just as super-heroes vs. super heroes were a major part of this year. It’d be great seeing American Horror Story set around classic Hollywood, but it’s possible these promos are just a misdirect. “One is accurate; all the rest are misdirect. We decided, Ryan [Murphy] and I and [marketing president] Stephanie Gibbons, that it would be really fun this year… to keep it a mystery. There is a theme and a setting and a place and time, but we’re not going to reveal it [until the premiere],” said FX CEO John Landgraf to IndieWire.
So, whether or not we get classic monsters for season six of American Horror Story, there’s no denying the appeal behind these monstrous ads for the upcoming season. You could enjoy below, courtesy of FX.
