Legendary makeup and fx artist Greg Nicotero presents us with “The United Monster Talent Agency” – a look inside films like Creature from the Black Lagoon and Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein.
Monsters like Dracula and the Wolfman have appeared in countless Universal Studios films, but what if the famous studio were actually using real monsters in their classic pictures?
Over a three day period in March 2014, Greg Nicotero decided to shoot a love letter to all of the Universal Monsters with some of his friends. But unlike when fans get together to celebrate the classic monsters, Nicotero put together something a little more than something we probably put together in our backyard, with our parents camera, at some point in our lives. Calling in his friends like Robert Rodriguez, Frank Darabont, and Eli Roth, Nicotero went ahead and shot a faux vintage promo reel called “The United Monster Talent Agency.”
“I always had this funny idea that sort of started as an ad for Universal Studios. It was supposed to open with the Creature from the Black Lagoon chasing a girl through the jungle and then at the end of the scene these guys come in with a net, rope the Creature off, and then you pan over to a Rod Serling announcer saying “Here at Universal Studios we strive for realism.” I always thought it’d be kind of fun to see that behind the scenes as if all the creatures were real and managed by this agency that sort of, you know, lent them out to different studios.” – Greg Nicotero to Fearnet
If you love the Universal Monsters as much as we do, we think you’re going to enjoy Greg Nicotero’s “The United Monster Talent Agency.” It also stars Cerina Vincent, Jeffrey Combs, Dana Gould as the Wolfman, and Sam Witwer as Dracula. We hope you enjoy this spook-tacular short and please feel free to share.
