Funko to release The Mummy POP vinyl figures!
UPDATE – 2/1/2017 at 4:30 pm ET: We have just confirmed that there will be three Funko POPs featuring Sofia Boutella as The Mummy, Princess Ahmanet, and Tom Cruise as Nick Morton.
UPDATE – 2/17/2017 at 9:46 pm ET: Here’s a first look at The Mummy Funko POP concepts.
According to Funko CEO Brian Mariotti, fans could expect to see The Mummy Funko POPs this year! With four months until the release of the film, word on merchandising has been quiet, but much like Kong: Skull Island, in which merchandising wasn’t revealed until last month, fans could most likely expect to start learning more about The Mummy in the coming weeks.
Every December, Brian Mariotti engages with fans on the Funko message boards and holds a 12 Days of Product Reveals. Quietly, on day 2, movie POPs for 2017 were revealed and among the list that included Alien: Covenant and War for the Planet of the Apes, Universal’s upcoming first entry in their “Monsters Universe” films was named – The Mummy.
It’s very exciting to see The Mummy being given the Funko POP treatment as the classic Universal Monsters have already appeared in vinyl form. They are all retired now and some have become quite elusive, rare, and expensive. It will be interesting to see if The Mummy gets a full line of POPs including one of Tom Cruise’s Nick Morton and Annabelle Wallis’ Jenny Halsey, but it’s almost certain we’ll see variations on Sofia Boutella’s Princess Ahmanet, along with Russell Crowe’s Dr. Jekyll.
With New York Toy Fair a little over two weeks away, we’re sure to learn more regarding The Mummy merchandise. We’ll be on hand at Toy Fair, so be sure to follow us across Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to be kept as up to date as possible.
As always, stay tuned to Universal Monsters Universe for the latest on The Mummy.
Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.
Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.
From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.
The Mummy is directed by Alex Kurtzman, from a script by Jon Spaihts, Dylan Kussman, and Christopher McQuarrie. The film stars Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Marwan Kenzari, Courtney B. Vance, Russell Crowe and Sofia Boutella. The film opens June 9, 2017.
