LA based company, Han Cholo, releases Universal Monsters line of licensed jewelry.

Han Cholo, a Los Angeles based company, has released a line of officially licensed Universal Monsters jewelry under their “Monster Lovers” collection. The first rollout of Han Cholo’s Universal Monsters line was at the start of this month and aimed right in time for this year’s Valentine’s Day. Featuring Frankenstein’s Monster and The Bride of Frankenstein, this seven piece collection truly is for “Monster Lovers.”

If you’re looking to get your special ghoul or boo a gift this year, we think Han Cholo’s “Monster Lovers” collection would make a pretty rad present.

We reached out to Han Cholo and here’s what designer Brandon Schoolhouse had to say:

“Growing up as a kid watching all the Universal Monster Classics and going to the studios and seeing Frankenstein and the Phantom walking around scared the shit out me, but always captured my imagination. Growing up in Hollywood I would go to Forrest Akerman’s Mansion and hang out with him and listen to his stories of the Old Hollywood Movies and get lost in all his Monster memorabilia. He would always wear the actual  Rings from Dracula and the Mummy Rings which inspired me to start doing jewelry. Han Cholo was brought to life by Monsters and Science-Fiction. This collection is my Dream to create. I just want to make Jewelry for Monster Fans like me that get it.” – Brandon Schoolhouse of Han Cholo
It’s always fun when someone reaches out to us in regards to the Universal Monsters and we are quite happy to present the “Monster Lovers” collection by Han Cholo here on UMU. Designer Brandon Schoolhouse, of Han Cholo, had said that he “just want[s] to make jewelry for monster fans, that get it” and we get it! Jewelry, patches, enamel pins are a major part of the “Monster Head” world. They always have been. Be it from the rad jewelry Bela Lugosi had as the Count, or the iconic ring Boris Karloff wore as Imhotep, this tradition has continued over the generations. Thanks to Brandon Schoolhouse and Han Cholo, it will continue over this generation, and we cannot wait to see what’s in store for future Universal Monsters waves.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, “Han Cholo” designer Brandon Schoolhouse, grew up immersed in the sub culture of Hollywood’s music and art scene. In high school Brandon took classes for metal works, and always had a knack for designing jewelry for himself and friends. In 1995, Brandon started working for the “Beastie Boys” for their record label “Grand Royal”, where he managed many different aspects of the label.

While working with “Grand Royal”, Brandon learned how to DJ, and thus Brandon’s alter ego, Han Cholo, was born. After several years working for the Beastie Boys, Brandon parted ways with Grand Royal, and made his name by spinning at LA’s hottest night spots and the most exclusive parties. During the day, Brandon worked as a wardrobe stylist, where he styled several music videos, fashion editorials, print ads and album packaging. At the same time, Brandon was utilizing his drawing abilities, and would design jewelry, that he would use to accessorize many of his rock star clients with.

As Han Cholo is so greatly influenced by Rock N’ Roll, Science Fiction, Fantasy Art, and the Los Angeles Culture, the line has become the “it” accessory among Hollywood fashionistas and celebrities alike. Fans of Han Cholo include: Queens of the Stone Age, Brad Pitt, Gwen Stefani, Little Dragon, Twin Shadow, Jane’s Addiction, the Rza, Snoop Dogg, Iggy Azalea, Black Eyed Peas, Soulja Boy, Miley Cyrus, M.I.A., Christina Aguilera, Hanni El Khatib, MF Doom, The Osbourne’s, The Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, Beck, MSTRKRFT, Rihanna, Priscilla Presley and many others…

Han Cholo also has done custom work for other companies such as: Disney’s Tron, Bloc 28, Hasbro, Nintendo Wii, Boost Mobile, X Box, HHGL Awards, Hot Wheels, the Oscars, the Grammy’s, MTV Awards, Doritos, MSTRKRFT, Teenage Riot Records, Mad Decent, X Large, Klipsch Speakers, Diamond Supply, Amp Energy Drink, Burton Snowboards, Yo!
