The Blonds Debut Collection Inspired by “The Mummy” at NYFW Fall/Winter 2017!

The Universal Monsters are easily the most iconic and recognizable of screen characters and monsters. They’ve left a lasting impression on generations since the 1930’s and with The Mummy releasing this June, the Universal Monsters are undoubtedly back in the public eye. On February 14th, the luxury apparel brand, The Blonds, debuted their upcoming collection inspired by The Mummy at Skylight Clarkson Square during New York Fashion Week.

The New York City based company, co-founded by designer Phillipe Blond and creative director David Blond, are “known for creating collections that are glamorously over the top with a rebellious twist.” It’s easy to see why they’re perfect for The Mummy through their creative, beautiful, and inspiring collection. In order to create their dazzling Fall/Winter 2017 collection, The Blonds partnered with Preciosa Crystal Components and presented an overall seventeen looks that explored the theme of duality, along with fantasy versus reality, and past versus present; all of which are themes that will be explored in The Mummy through the characters played by Sofia Boutella (Princess Ahmanet/The Mummy) and Tom Cruise (Nick Morton).

Seventeen of the extravagant looks incorporated Preciosa crystals with some the signature corsets weighing in at 15 pounds. The final look, worn by Phillipe Blond as The Mummy, featured head to toe crystal embellishment. In total, more than 30,000 crystals weighing 40 pounds were used in this collection.

“This season we used a new shape, the cushion cut…very prominent in royal jewels, which speaks to one of the narratives expressed in this collection, so it makes perfect sense!” says David Blond.

It’s very exciting to see The Mummy have a significant and mesmerizing presence during New York Fashion Week. The film, along with Sofia Boutella, has an exotic and other wordly beauty that is both classic and modern. The collection by The Blonds represents The Mummy in a most exciting and fascinating way and we’re very happy to see such magnificent designers find inspiration in one of this year’s most anticipated films.

Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.

Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

The Mummy is directed by Alex Kurtzman, from a script by Jon Spaihts, Dylan Kussman, and Christopher McQuarrie. The film stars Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Marwan Kenzari, Courtney B. Vance, Russell Crowe and Sofia Boutella. The film opens June 9, 2017.
