The Mummy Zero Gravity VR Experience To Debut at SXSW 2017!

The Mummy Zero Gravity VR Experience

IMAX, together with Universal Pictures, presents The Mummy Zero Gravity VR Experience at South By Southwest 2017.

In a new press release, it has been announced by Universal Pictures that they will be partnering with IMAX to present The Mummy Zero Gravity VR Experience during SXSW (South By Sothwest) on March 10th to March 14th.

The Mummy Zero Gravity VR Experience

The Mummy, out June 9th, showcases a thrilling Zero G sequence featuring Tom Cruise and Annabelle Wallis. Filmed aboard the vomit comet, at Tom Cruise’s request, this stunt sequence will certainly stand alongside Cruise’s most memorable of stunts and most entertaining of film scenes. Universal, along with IMAX, are looking to transport fans into the world of The Mummy, by offering a Zero Gravity VR Experience based on the Alex Kurtzman film. This experience will be the first kind to debut LA based tech studio Positron’s Voyager chair – the world’s first full motion chair designed for cinematic VR. Participants will join Tom Cruise and Annabelle Wallis in a thrilling stunt in Zero-G four miles above sea level.

Twenty Voyager units will have their motion choreographed together to deliver the ultimate behind-the-scenes Zero Gravity experience.  Proven to eliminate motion sickness, Voyager delivers a completely new level of immersion in VR by providing a comfortable, fully integrated personal VR theater that incorporates motorized rotation and pitch motion, haptic feedback (with physical audio powered by Subpac), 3D audio, integrated VR headsets, and specialized seating.

Attendees at this year’s SXSW can now sign up and register for The Mummy Zero Gravity VR Experience at Eventfarm. Limited slots are available for pre-registration daily and will open at 6PM the night before. If there are no reservations available, a stand-by line is open to all badge holders each day. The Mummy Zero Gravity VR Experience will be held in the Austin Convention Center, Ballroom B.

As always, stay tuned to Universal Monsters Universe for the latest on The Mummy.

Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.

Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

The Mummy is directed by Alex Kurtzman, from a script by Jon Spaihts, Dylan Kussman, and Christopher McQuarrie. The film stars Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Marwan Kenzari, Courtney B. Vance, Russell Crowe and Sofia Boutella. The film opens June 9, 2017.

  1. Awesome! The is the closest we’ve gotten to a confirmation that The Mummy will be released in 3D. VR is inherently 3D, so MAYBE the creators had 3D in mind for the picture as well – which was shot on film – but hopefully it will be converted to excellent-quality 3D. That’s my hope anyway. Come on Universal! Just do it!

  2. WOW! It must be Tom Cruise’s time for VR! A Mission: Impossible VR Game was announced For PSVR, Rift and Vive! Que the music!
