Universal Pictures announces Saturday, May 20th as “The Mummy Day”!

With just four more weeks left until The Mummy releases in theaters, Universal Pictures has announced Saturday, May 20th as The Mummy Day! According to Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter, Universal and RealD will unveil a 75 foot, 7 ton sarcophagus at Hollywood & Highland. The sarcophagus, a replica of Ahmanet’s, took two separate firms eight weeks to construct, along with more than 160 hours to install.

The Mummy has been such a labor of love for the hundreds of cast and crew who have worked for the past few years preparing its big-screen launch. When we built Princess Ahmanet’s sarcophagus for production, we had no idea that a 15,000-pound replica of her ‘eternal’ resting place would one day find its home at the intersection of Hollywood & Highland.  I can’t wait to celebrate her story with the fans on May 20.” – Alex Kurtzman

In addition to this event, which will see the largest single vertical structure assembled at the Hollywood & Highland gateway, stars Tom Cruise, Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, and Jake Johnson will be in attendance for a live streamed event that will be featured on  The Mummy Facebook page and Fandango’s Facebook page at noon PT.

Fans who attend The Mummy Day celebration in Los Angeles will be invited to try The Mummy VR Zero Gravity Stunt Experience, which premiered during SXSW. The Mummy Escape Game, an immersive game in which guests will be recruited as security guards who must solve interactive puzzles to save mankind, will also be available to 10 players at a time.

It’s exciting that the upcoming Universal Monsters film by Alex Kurtzman is getting a “day”! Past films like Back to the Future and Alien have received days, which have gone on to be quite fun for fans. While The Mummy Day will be central to Los Angeles, CA it would not be surprising if Universal has a few surprises in store. If you ask us, we’d say that you should not be too surprised if something Prodigium related is coming your way, along with advance ticket sales for the film, out June 9th.

As always, stay tuned to Universal Monsters Universe for the latest on The Mummy and the Universal Monsters Universe of films.

Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.

Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

The Mummy is directed by Alex Kurtzman, from a script by Jon Spaihts, Dylan Kussman, and Christopher McQuarrie. The film stars Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Marwan Kenzari, Courtney B. Vance, Russell Crowe and Sofia Boutella. The film opens June 9, 2017.
