The Mummy‘s Jake Johnson and Courtney B. Vance talk working with headlining star, Tom Cruise!

It’s June 1st! The Mummy is nearly here and if you’re as excited as we are, then you obviously cannot wait to hear what all the stars of the upcoming “Dark Universe” film have to say about working on the upcoming first installment, along with working alongside headlining star Tom Cruise. In a newly released video, The Mummy‘s Jake Johnson (Sgt. Vail) and Courtney B. Vance (Col. Greenway) talk working with Tom Cruise, his inspiring work ethic, along with the competitiveness he brings to the set. You could view that video below.

The Mummy opens in one week from today, but advance screenings will start soon, with the earliest taking place on Monday, June 5th. In the meantime, check out the following video of The Mummy‘s Jake Johnson from a few years back. It’s rather fitting as we take into consideration all the action and stunts Tom Cruise required of him while filming across locations in London, Namibia, and France.

As always, stay tuned to Universal Monsters Universe for the latest on The Mummy and the Universal Monsters Universe of films.

Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.

Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

The Mummy is directed by Alex Kurtzman, from a script by Jon Spaihts, Dylan Kussman, and Christopher McQuarrie. The film stars Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Marwan Kenzari, Courtney B. Vance, Russell Crowe and Sofia Boutella. The film opens June 9, 2017.

  1. Man, this movie had better get a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes! If it doesn’t, it’ll show big time at the box office.

Reading quotes like “Behind the scenes, Universal execs are said to be especially concerned about Mummy…” is especially concerning.

I wonder though if Universal execs are worried about the quality of the movie or just potential box office. My guess would be that they are very happy with the movie….since it has already had a few premieres. If they didn’t think the movie was good, it would not have premiered so early. I just hope that audiences will show up for this. I’m looking forward to seeing commercials for The Mummy during the NBA Finals….and go Cavs!

    • While I wouldn’t fully discredit that article, I will agree that I’m certain Universal Pictures are hoping that “The Mummy” performs as bast as it can. But the “Dark Universe” is in as best a place as it could be right now. It’s a tough spot opening right after “Wonder Woman”, but I’m sure it’ll do as well as it could. Strong word of mouth seems likely for this one.

Not much longer to wait now. When will you be seeing it?

      • Sometime between the Thursday opening night and the following Monday! Friday or Saturday looking the most likely.

I did get to see Wonder Woman and it is spectacular! Best movie of 2017 thus far. I think a $100+ million domestic opening is feasible. The musical score and battle scenes reminded me of Hacksaw Ridge (one of the best movies of 2016)…and of course there are awesome parallels to Captain America: The First Avenger (which is my absolute favorite Marvel branded movie…and one of my all time favorite pictures period). Captain Kirk (I mean Chris Pine….whoops, Steve Trevor) is fantastic….heck, the movie is almost “Captain America meets Wonder Woman”…as Chris Evans and Pine have that similar look! I can’t wait to see it again!

        • I’m really happy you enjoyed “Wonder Woman” so much. I got to see it yesterday and I loved it. I’ve yet to see “Hacksaw Ridge” but I have it on blu-ray so I’ll need to watch soon.

The whole cast was fantastic and yes, the score was great. The whole movie really was just so WONDERful!

…and now here we are, the week of “The Mummy” is here!

          • Warner Bros. almost certainly is going to be moving ahead with Wonder Woman 2 very soon. A Comic Con announcement could be coming (as well as news on release dates for other DC movies they have coming up). They knocked it out of the park and I can only hope that Justice League receives similar praise!

You’re in for a real treat with Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge! It easily has some of the best battle scenes ever created for a movie! Vince Vaughn steals the show! And Andrew Garfield and Sam Worthington are fantastic as well.

So excited for The Mummy coming out this week (as well as the unofficial start of E3 with EA’s “press conference” on Saturday)! It’s going to be one wild ride! Microsoft will hopefully be announcing a big AAA new IP action/adventure game on Sunday that takes advantage of Project Scorpio….and Sony should counter on Monday with Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and God of War to name a few! I’m gonna be very happy over the coming days!
