Courtney B. Vance talks playing Col. Greenway in “The Mummy.”
In the latest edition of Parade, prolific actor Courtney B. Vance (The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story) talks briefly about his role in Alex Kurtzman’s The Mummy. When asked to talk about his character, Col. Greenway, he said the following:
I’ve played these types before—the police chief, the bring-me-the-evidence guy in Law & Order. He’s trying to keep [co-star] Tom Cruise in line, trying to make sure that the whole shebang doesn’t collapse on itself and that the collateral damage is not catastrophic.
While it doesn’t reveal too much, it should be known that Courtney B. Vance doesn’t have too large a role in The Mummy. Most of his work was filmed in Namibia, alongside Jake Johnson. Interestingly, when the production moved to France to shoot the zero gravity sequence, Vance and Johnson opted out and instead used their stuntmen to film the scene.
There’s also a new BTS video with Courtney B. Vance in which he speaks more in detail about working on The Mummy.

Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.
Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.
From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.
The Mummy is directed by Alex Kurtzman, from a script by Jon Spaihts, Dylan Kussman, and Christopher McQuarrie. The film stars Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Marwan Kenzari, Courtney B. Vance, Russell Crowe and Sofia Boutella. The film opens June 9, 2017.
