Welcome to Dark Universe

The Mummy Is Awakened on iTunes! Own It On Digital Today!

The Mummy

Own the first chapter in Universal’s “Dark Universe” – The Mummy – on digital today!

Today marks the digital release of Alex Kurtzman’s The Mummy, following its June 9th theatrical release. The Mummy, the first chapter in Universal’s “Dark Universe” was one of this summer’s most exciting and truly underappreciated of films. A film that was as fun as it was scary, The Mummy serves as an excellent prelude to the “Dark Universe,” which will continue with Bill Condon’s Bride of Frankenstein – out in theaters February 2019.

The digital release of The Mummy on Apple iTunes presents fans with the choice of owning the film in SD or HD. The HD presentation of the film is in 1080p and comes with all the special features that the Blu-ray release will come with when it releases this September.

  • Cruise & Kurtzman: A Conversation
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Rooted in Reality
  • Life in Zero-G: Creating the Plane Crash
  • Meet Ahmanet
  • Cruise in Action
  • Becoming Jekyll and Hyde
  • Choreographing Chaos
  • Nick Morton: In Search of a Soul
  • Ahmanet Reborn Animated Graphic Novel
  • Feature Commentary

“It sets a tone and palette for what the ‘Dark Universe’ is.” – Tom Cruise

Having spent the entirety of this morning with the extras on The Mummy, I must say that the film is a must watch for film enthusiasts. If you love action and adventure in the vein of Indiana Jones and Sony’s Uncharted games; if you’re a Universal Monsters fan and love the classics; or if you’re just a Tom Cruise fan – The Mummy is the movie for you. It was made over the course of the latter part of 2015 and throughout 2016, and the cast and crew was filled with some of the most hard working and extremely talented of people. There was a lot of love poured into the making of this film, one we could attest to, especially if you followed us as we chronicled the making of The Mummy through pre-production, principal photography, and post.

It’s hard to believe that the journey I’ve been on with Alex Kurtzman’s The Mummy is nearly over – drawing full circle when the film releases on Blu-ray next month. But having watched all the extras – with the highlights being Cruise & Kurtzman: A Conversation, Ahmanet Reborn Animated Graphic Novel, and Rooted in Reality, I cannot wait to not only rewatch The Mummy another 10 times, but also chronicle the production of Bride of Frankenstein with the same attention, focus, and love as I did with The Mummy. I hope you all look forward to that, as well.

The Mummy releases on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K on September 12th! But if you can’t wait to own the film, like us, than we highly recommend getting the digital copy on iTunes now. The Mummy is available for $14.99

The Mummy

Sofia Boutella as The Mummy.

As always, stay tuned to Universal Monsters Universe for the latest on “The Mummy” and the Universal Monsters Universe of films.

Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.

Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

The Mummy is directed by Alex Kurtzman, from a script by Jon Spaihts, Dylan Kussman, and Christopher McQuarrie. The film stars Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Marwan Kenzari, Courtney B. Vance, Russell Crowe and Sofia Boutella. The film is now playing in theaters everywhere.

  2. Yesterday when I installed the day 1 patch for Uncharted: The Lost Legacy on my PS4 Pro, I noticed the PlayStation dashboard advertised The Mummy for digital on demandQ That’s so cool to me. A new Uncharted game and The Mummy available to watch digitally on the same! Oh, and this past Sunday was the 2 hour premiere of The Last Ship season 4 on TNT….so there’s probably never been a better week for action/adventure fans than this week!

    • And I almost forgot that it was announced this week at Gamescon that Rise of the Tomb Raider will be getting free Xbox One X enhancements – including native 4K resolution, HDR, and Dolby Atmos support – for the launch of Xbox One X on November 7!

    • Hahaha, that’s awesome. How is “The Lost Legacy”? I haven’t played it yet, but I’m very excited to.

      • Unfortunately I’m unable to say because I haven’t started playing The Lost Legacy yet! Even though I bought the game…it’s probably going to be months before I start….at this point I think I’ll be starting in 2018 actually! I have other games I want to get through first, chiefly Rise of the Tomb Raider, secondarily The Last of Us Remastered, and maybe Battlefield 1! I briefly looked at some reviews of The Lost Legacy and was pleased. The bottom line is that if you’ve played through Uncharted 1 through 4 and are a fan of the franchise, then you know what to expect (in a very good way)! But I’ve gotta first finish my play through with Lara Croft before I move on to Chloe Frazer!

And before I forget, make sure you check out this video clip where Shawn Levy discusses the Uncharted movie if you haven’t seen it already. I feel much better about the direction they are going now (although of course I still highly prefer the take Joe Carnahan’s script was going). I hope it all works out well and that they start filming in 2018. The potential of an Uncharted movie is unbelievably good.
