“The Bride of Frankenstein” to be shown during NYC’s Movie Under the Stars: Shocktober Fest!
With October creeping up upon us, it’s time to start making our Halloween plans for this year. If you live in or around New York, you may want to check out the NYC Parks Department and New York City Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment’s Movie Under the Stars: Shocktober Fest as one of the most iconic monsters will be shown and heard throughout all of Brooklyn’s Carroll Park – James Whale’s The Bride of Frankenstein. The classic follow up to James Whale’s original Universal Monster picture will be playing for FREE on Friday, October 20th, from 6:15 pm ET to 7:30 pm ET.
If you’re interested in going, here’s some information you may like to know. You should come before 6:15 p.m. to get your spot for the movie. It’s highly advised that you bring your own picnic blanket or chair, and while food is OK, no alcohol or smoking is permitted.
It’s exciting to see that The Bride of Frankenstein will be a Universal Monsters film shown during this Halloween season, especially considering that the Dark Universe’s second installment is Bride and that Bill Condon’s relaunch will reportedly begin principal photography this February. While our report yesterday contained a plot synopsis that was ultimately confirmed incorrect (the plot was based off of a 2004 draft), there is still a high possibility that the film will shoot in New York City and London, just as Alex Kurtzman’s The Mummy did. It’s a wise move to start re-introducing audiences to The Bride of Frankenstein because while there are plenty of fans of Elsa Lanchester’s iconic monster, it could be argued that more modern audiences are only aware of the iconography of the monster and not of the actual film.
Here’s a good litmus test for fans: True or False: The Bride, herself, only really has about 5 or so minutes of screen time and then dies.
Do you live in NYC? Will you be going to see “The Bride of Frankenstein” at Carroll Park this October? Let us know in the comments below and maybe we’ll see you there!

Based on the gothic novel by Mary Shelley, this 1935 classic picks up right after the events in the film, “Frankenstein”. Having survived the villagers’ attack, “the Monster” wants a mate. But, Dr. Frankenstein refuses and the Monster kidnaps his wife. Hoping to recover his wife, he builds “the Bride”. But, there’s just one problem, she has no desire for the Monster. Boris Karloff reprises his role as “the Monster” and Elsa Lanchester gives an iconic performance as “the Bride”.
