Welcome to Dark Universe

From Karloff to Cumberbatch, UMU Wishes You A Merry Grinchmas!

Merry Grinchmas from Universal Monsters Universe!

It’s Christmas time once again and, it just wouldn’t be the holidays without our favorite green furry mean one, Mr. Grinch! While news has been quiet in Whoville and Universal regarding the development of their new The Grinch film by Illumination Entertainment (Despicable Me 12, & 3), Universal and Illumination did release the first poster from the upcoming film. You could view the poster below.

He gets meaner… and we’d too if we had to listen to that song about us!

As a fan of both The Grinch, Illumination, and Benedict Cumberbatch, I believe Illumination is going to have a Despicable Me sized hit on their hands when The Grinch opens on November 9, 2018. It was originally supposed to release this November, but was ultimately pushed back which isn’t uncommon for animated films. Benedict Cumberbatch is a perfect choice for the cuddly as a cactus and charming as an eel Seuss monster. Boris Karloff, to this day, is the voice of The Grinch for so many and Cumberbatch should easily be able to introduce us to a Grinch that feels reverent of the original while also being authentically original!

The Grinch, opening in November 2018, stars the voice talent of Benedict Cumberbatch as the iconic Christmas monster. From Karloff, to Carrey, to Cumberbatch, we’re positive Illumination’s The Grinch is going to be a fun addition to the legacy of Dr. Seuss’ most beloved character.

From all of us at Universal Monsters Universe, we wish you, your families, your friends, and your rejuvenated and reawakened monsters a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Keep it Grinch-y and we’ll see you in the new year!

“How The Grinch Stole Christmas” tells the tale of the Grinch who plots to ruin Christmas for the residents of his neighboring village of Whoville. Pete Candeland and and Yarrow Cheney are directing.

Michael LeSieur is adapting the script with Meledandri, Janet Healy and Scott Mosier producing. Audrey Geisel and Chris Renaud exec produce.

“How The Grinch Stole Christmas” opens November 9, 2018.
